Dr. von Plitt is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in the State of Oregon with certification in Applied Kinesiology (AK) and additional training in Neuro Emotional Technique (NET).  He has worked closely with an internationally respected functional gastrointestinal naturopathic doctor, received advanced training in physical medicine modalities, and has been trained in IV therapy, natural skin care, minor surgery, and lifestyle interventions for optimizing patients' health.

In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. von Plitt is also a Tai Chi and Qigong instructor.  He received his training in China and holds a 4th Duan rank and an advanced level coaching certificate in the  Traditional Chinese Martial Arts.  He uses these arts to help his patients and people around the world combat the sedentary lifestyle that has become the norm in modern society.

Dr. von Plitt's goal is to help his patients build resilient health that can withstand the many stressors life throws at them on a daily basis.  The path that Dr. von Plitt takes toward building robust and resilient health is by working to optimize each patient's internal terrain.  Like the terrain in a well-tended vineyard that produce beautiful fruit, when the terrain inside the body is robust it fosters health and resilience.

Regardless of the complexity of a patient's case, Dr. von Plitt strives to support the healing power present within the patient's body to help them awaken the healer within.

Dr. von Plitt is a graduate of the National University of Natural Medicine and he completed his bachelors of science degree in biochemistry and cell biology at the University of California San Diego.  Dr. von Plitt is also a member of the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OANP) and the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (GastroANP).

MY SPECIALTIES

HEALTH OPTIMIZATION

Sometimes we may not have any specific disease or major health crisis in our lives, but we might feel a little "off".  Or we might feel fine, but want to take our health to the next level. These situations are when health optimization is ideal. If that sounds like you, schedule an appointment with Dr. von Plitt to find out what tweaks we can make to your routine to take you to the next level.

PHYSICAL MEDICINE

Dr. von Plitt practices a form of physical medicine known as Naturopathic Manipulative Therapy (NMT).  NMT includes multiple types of soft tissue work, gentle joint mobilization techniques, as well as grade 5 manipulations.  When patients come in with aches, pains, sore muscles, stiff joints, or reduced range of motion, Dr. von Plitt often turns to NMT techniques to help his patients.  However, with Dr. von Plitt's whole-person approach, he considers the patient's whole system to help determine what factors may be contributing the the patient's physical symptoms.

NATURAL SKIN CARE

An old Naturopathic saying states that the inner health of a person is reflected in the health of their skin.  In a whole-person approach to patient care, it is vital to look deeper than the skin when a patient comes to the clinic with skin concerns.  Dr. von Plitt combines the use of appropriate topical treatments with supporting the health of the whole person when helping patients with skin concerns.

MICRONEEDLING

Micro-Needling is a treatment that is used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, scars (including acne scars), stretch marks, and other skin blemishes.  Dr. von Plitt uses specific serums that are formulated with herbs used in Chinese medicine, to increase the effectiveness of the Micro-Needling treatments he performs.  When combined with microneedling the absorption of these skin-nourishing serums increases by up to 3000%, increasing their ability to affect the skin.

Many people have seen at-home options for Micro-Needling treatment. If you have seen these and are wondering about them, it is important to understand that receiving treatment from a trained professional reduces the risk of undesirable skin damage.  Additionally, healthcare professionals have access to more potent serum options and they have the knowledge of how to apply those serums safely and for ideal effect.

For those reasons, among others, it is best to receive microneedling treatment from a trained professional instead of risking adverse effects from at-home treatments.  If you have ever attempted at-home haircuts, you understand the difference between what you can get at home and what you get when you go to a professional.

If you have any of the above skin conditions and you would like to know if microneedling can be helpful, schedule a consultation with Dr. von Plitt today.

DIETARY AND NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT

Dr. von Plitt has worked with patients who are taking more than 20 supplements daily and he feels that this is often a sign of less-than-ideal nutritional management.  He has also worked with patients who feel lost when it comes to which foods to eat, which foods to avoid, what supplements to take, what health products to buy, and what diet to use for their specific health needs.  While supplements and specific diets can be helpful under certain circumstances, they can waste a person's time and money under other circumstance.

Additionally, if there is dysfunction in the gut, there may be suboptimal absorption of nutrients from foods and supplements, which is why it may feel like it takes so many supplements to maintain a sense of normal function.  Looking at the whole person can reveal where support is most needed and how to optimize the effects of that support.

IV THERAPY

While IV therapy is not necessary for everyone, Dr. von Plitt has seen it make a huge difference for patients when it is needed.  Often when the GI tract is not absorbing nutrients well it can leave people feeling depleted.  Restoring nutrients to the body in a route that does not depend on GI absorption can help people regain the vitality they need to fully embark on their healing journey.

APPLIED KINESIOLOGY (AK)

Applied Kinesiology is a system developed by a Chiropractor, Dr. George Goodheart, who was the first official US Olympic team Chiropractor.  It is based on the principle of the "Triad of Health" which consists of structural, biochemical, and mental components of a person's health.  The idea is that an imbalance in any one of these areas can lead to health dysfunction and can cause problems with the other two components.  AK uses spinal manipulation (similar to those used in naturopathic manipulative therapy), joint mobilization, soft tissue techniques, cranial sacral techniques, acupuncture meridians, nutrition, neurovascular reflexes, neurolymphatic reflexes, visceral manipulation, and other techniques to restore balance to the triad of health.  AK also uses specific muscle testing techniques to help isolate which techniques will be most helpful for a patient and to determine what areas of the body to focus on.  Dr. von Plitt has used AK techniques with great success in the clinic.

NET is a system that helps relieve symptoms related to mind/body stress.  Some people carry limiting beliefs about themselves which hinder their ability to reach their full potential because they find themselves self-sabotaging their own success.  Some people carry emotional burdens in their body in a way that manifests as physical discomfort.

NET is based on principles of Chinese medicine combined with a very specific treatment approach that has shown reduced amygdala activity in patients when recalling traumatic events after only a few sessions.  The amygdala is an area in the brain that is activated during times of extreme stress and it can be easily triggered by any situation that seems similar to the original triggering event.  By using a therapy that reduces its activation during a triggering event, it could be said that the emotional burden of that event is lightened enough to allow more normal, rational function related to similar events.

NATURAL DIGESTIVE SUPPORT

A traditional naturopathic principle of health is that health starts in the gut.  Anyone who has followed research over the past several years knows that the gut microbiome, the gut-brain connection, and increased gut permeability (leaky gut) as a cause for systemic inflammation in the body are topics that are getting more and more attention.  Dr. von Plitt prioritizes gut health when working with patients on a wide range of health concerns.  Additionally, he spent a significant part of his clinical training focused on working with people who had complex gut health issues including SIBO, IMO, IBD, IBS, yeast overgrowth, leaky gut, and more.

METABOLISM SUPPORT

Metabolic syndrome, Type 2 Diabetes, and difficulty obtaining and maintaining healthy weight are major health concerns to public health right now.  There are many natural and lifestyle interventions that can help steer people toward improved metabolic health, but there is often mixed messaging in the news and social media that people watch on a regular basis.  Dr. von Plitt strives to help his patients understand ways that they can improve their metabolic health.

Nasal Specific is a technique that helps reset the nasal passages.  Most patients report better ability to breathe through their nose and reduced nasal congestion after receiving Nasal Specific.

TAI CHI AND QIGONG

Sedentary lifestyle is often referred to as "the new smoking" due to its detrimental effects on health. Movement is crucial to keeping a health body and mind and the movement principles of Tai Chi and Qigong elevate movement to a whole new level.

Additionally, chronic stress and its negative effects on health are a major concern for people in the modern world.  Tai Chi and Qigong are excellent stress management tools to help combat the chronic stress we all face on a daily basis.

Dr. von Plitt was first introduced to these arts when he was in his early teens and been trained in China.  He earned a 4th dual rank in Traditional Chinese Martial Arts and an advanced level coaching certificated during his time in China.  He offers free Tai Chi and Qigong instruction videos which you can find at AndrewPlitt.com.
